You wake up in the morning, your mind races with the responsibilities of the day, that's when you begin to reflect on the activity of your brain and decide to focus on Jesus instead to calm down. So you mindfully breath and concentrate on Jesus for a few minutes, things calm down, and you get out of bed and start your day with your usual routine.
Then sitting comfortably on the sofa you close your eyes and begin to love Jesus. You honor Him with a loving meditation from the heart. (John 5:23) Things wind down even more. You feel as though you are living in God's eternal present moment. (Matthew 6:34)
With optimism levels boosted you know this is going to be a good day. No matter what comes your way, your mind is on God, you know Him and can feel Him. His word in you is something you treasure and it shapes the reality of your future. You feel God's peace and His power keeps you mentally and emotionally steady. (Isaiah 26:3) Everything is well in the quarters of your soul. You have tasted and seen the Lord's goodness. You're ready for the day.
Christian meditators develop the ability to observe the self and make changes as needed. (Proverbs 4:23) And that's not all. They are calmer, are able to think through situations more clearly, patiently approach problems, tend to ask questions for greater clarity, think deeper, eat healthier food, and exercise more.
Imagine being weighed down by the pressures of the world and then feeling light again. Jesus provides us that and so much more.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” ~ Matthew 11:28-30
Very few Christians I know follow this instruction. Instead they mentally and emotionally collapse under the weight of life or barley survive to maintain sanity. God doesn't want us to live that way. We must come to Jesus everyday and cast our burdens into His hands. We must experience His love and light everyday. We must find rest in Him everyday. He restores and rejuvenates. His burden is truly light.
If you're on the fence about Christian meditation, or if you just started the practice, let me share with you how your life will change. Here's the top fifteen things you'll probably start doing differently.
1. Things won't bother you as much
When you walk with the Lord daily, His eternal peace keeps you emotionally balanced and mentally healthy. Even a simply secular mindfulness meditation can do wonders for your inner stability, imagine the results with a Jesus meditation.
2. You'll sleep better
Not being bothered as much by the world will help you to sleep better. You'll probably start getting in the habit of going to bed early and waking up early. Scientific studies have shown that people who meditate sleep better.
3. You'll laugh more
With a lighter heart and a more prevalent divine perspective, the worry that used to weigh you down will disappear. The world won't change, but you will, and the change will make your life a brighter. In 2009 researchers published a study at the US National Library of Medicine
and National Institutes of Health that related meditation to greater happiness and satisfaction.
4. You'll feel more present
With the worrisome mental pattern gone you'll be free to be you again. Worry and stress suffocates the true you, the you that exists in Christ. You must not conform to the patterns of this world, instead you must renew your mind everyday Christ Jesus.
5. You'll do better under pressure
Holding hands with Jesus and experiencing God's peace everyday establishes our knowledge of God's peace, a peace that stays with us throughout the busy day.
6. You'll stress less
Things come and go in life, but your perspective in Christ is the solid ground you stand on and nothing can move you just like nothing can move Jesus. In a 2017 study published by the Psychiatry Research journal, anxiousness virtually disappeared in people who meditated. They also displayed decreased biochemical response to stress.
7. You'll think more clearly
With less stress and a clearer mind God's gift of mental energy will be released. You feel brighter, smarter, and more energetic. The power of your mind in Christ Jesus is nothing more than miraculous. In Matthew 21:21-22 God's word states that anything we concentrate on and believe as real during our time with God in prayer, we will receive. Standford University has demonstrated just how powerful the human brain in a series of experiments. This is a testimony of God's love for us. God never chose us to live in a challenging environment without power, trust me, you have God's power in your brain. You just have to get rid of thought that sort circuits your God-given potential.
8. You'll be more optimistic
Casting your burdens into the hands of Christ will free you to walk tall and grasp life with all it's possibilities. God doesn't want you to be burdened, His Son's sacrifice is enough to take away all burdens. In another study showed that meditation produces optimism and tranquility (Fredrickson, Tugade, Waugh, & Larkin, 2003), mental resiliency (Stein, Folkman, Trabasso, & Richards, 1997), while enhancing close relationships.
9. You're prayer life will improve
With a peaceful mind, a clear heart, and a still soul, you'll pray with more clarity, love, compassion, understanding, and faith. You will truly know what it means to lean on God and not your own understanding.
10. Your love will grow
With a free mind and heart you'll be more sensitive to God's love. You'll love more and do more with that love. Studies show that when you practice God's word to love through meditation you activate your mind's power. You become more focused and clear minded.
11. Your light will shine
Stress, worry, doubt, and a cluttered mind is not conducive to letting God's light shine. With your mind focused on God you will be full of light, light that will help others as you glorify God.
12. You'll want healthier food
As your inner being becomes healthier your body will naturally seek out healthier more wholesome foods like organic fruits and veggies.
13. You'll want to exercise
The change won't stop at just fruits and veggies. Your body will want to move. Exercise will more frequently occupy your mind.
14. Your desire for God's word will increase
As your time with God becomes more profound you'll desire God's word more often. Each day you study and meditate on God's word your spiritual fulfillment will grow. Your hunger and thirst for God's word will also grow, and only God will be able to quench your thirst.
15. Your devotional time will deepen
Your time with God will open new ways of seeing things. New thought patterns, and possibilities will suddenly appear in your mind. Deep profound time with God is how the branch consciously thrives in the Vine.
