Christian Meditation and Anxiety

Anxiety is a general term for thought that causes nervousness, fear, and worry. Certain thought patterns can create stress, and disharmony in how we think, feel and act.

Philippians 4:6 states that we should not be anxious about anything and Colossians 3:14 provides the solution saying that putting on love brings heart, soul, mind, and body together in perfect harmony.  

Additionally, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 explains that love heals because it produces soundness of mind.

So the Bible teaches that love is the most powerful spiritual quality we can embody. Scripture also teaches that God is love and that it's personified in Jesus.   

The method of embodying love is one of the most powerful methods to overcoming anxiety today. It's known as psychological flexibility. Developed by Dr. Steven Hayes, the 30th most influential psychologist in the world, the method has proven to help in over a thousand case studies successfully.

The concept is simple. Because anxiety is a psychology that traps people, Dr. Hayes demonstrates that viewing the anxiety psychology from a different perspective provides people the flexibility need for change.

He explains that observing thought patterns from a third party perspective enhances our ability to analyze anxiety objectively and ultimately dispel it.

He discovered that the most effective perspective to view anxiety from is - love. You heard that right. The doctor found that by having patients meditatively embody the personality of love, they could better understand anxiety and heal from it. In other words, they receive soundness of mind.

Christian Meditation and Jesus

In 2013 Dr. Herbert Benson of the Harvard Medical School published a groundbreaking study that revealed changes in genetic expressions in blood samples taken from people before and after experiencing the simple meditative practice of focusing on something.

The biological pathways associated with the change in genetic expressions was clinically proven to counteract arterial blood pressure, anxiety, insomnia, and even aging.

Through science, we've learned that something as simple as relaxing by focusing on a something we can activate incredible healing processes in the body.

According to many Bible verses becoming mindfully aware of Jesus allows us to receive wisdom, love, health, power, creativity, and a host of other benefits.

Science is finally catching up to the Bible and proving scripture true. Now it's time to enter the presence of Jesus.

Christian Meditation and Stress

The clinical definition of stress views mental, or emotional factors as the cause bodily or mental tension which can have an impact on physical health.

According to Dr. Elizabeth Hoge, a psychiatrist at the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders at Massachusetts General Hospital and an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, mindfulness meditation help people manage stress because it addresses the symptom of distracting thoughts which have the power to derail healthy mental practices.

Unlike healthy problem-solving thoughts that seek successful outcomes, nagging worries promote a negative downward spiral that can cause health problems.

Regardless why a person stresses, practicing inner health techniques is just as important as practicing physical health techniques, like exercise.

In March 2014 researchers from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD performed an extensive meta-analysis of 47 clinical trials. Their findings, published by The Journal of the American Medical Association, noted that mindful meditation helps ease the psychological patterns that cause stress.

Mindfulness meditation is the inner health exercise of letting go of stressful though and being in the present moment. The method is scientifically proven to change the chemistry of brain and body positively which helps a person perform better in stressful situations.

In Matthew 6:25 - 34 Jesus explains that stress and worry are unhealthy and can affect the body. He advises to let go of everything that makes us anxious and to just be in the moment. It appears that science is catching up the 2000-year-old injunction.

Science and secular meditation practices fall short of the ultimate healing power - Jesus. In Matthew 11:28 - 30 Jesus tells His followers that uniting with Him produces peace in the soul.

Although we can scientifically prove Christ's instruction of letting go stress and being in the moment as healthy, Jesus explains that joining Him mentally and spiritually offers the greatest results.

This meditation will help you to mentally and spiritually free yourself from anything that might cause you stress, be in the moment with Jesus, and then merge yourself with Him.
