5 Christian Meditation Principles To Live By

I love practical advice. Most people do. Especially the kind you apply to life right away. And the discipline of Christian Meditation (CM) is full of practical Biblical wisdom.

When I tell friends that I practice Christian meditation, I often hear remarks like: :When are you going grow a beard and to join a monastery"

Although, traditionally one may think of a Christian mediator that way, that's not really what CM is all about.

CM is about cultivating God's word in ourselves and then living it. In others words, it is the deep practice of God's word in heart, soul, mind, and body. Embodying God's word this way is very useful for living a peaceful and happy life. So I've made a list of the CM lessons I've found to be the most practical in everyday living. Here you go.

1. Keep God's Word

I John 14:23 Jesus states that we should keep His word and if we do, God will love us more with His presence. I can't think of a better way to start the day than training our brain with God's word every day. It prepares the mind, brings more of God's presence, and gives peace to the heart.

2. Be Present With Jesus

"So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today" ~ Matthew 6:34

One of the keys to enjoying life, being creative, boosting our ability to solves problems, and withstanding the pressures of life, is just being present - with Jesus. If Jesus were present with you throughout the day, would he stress over your situations? Probably not.

Jesus is one with the Father. Nothing stresses Him. And Jesus calls us to have the same relationship with Him and the Father. In John 15:5 Jesus describes Himself as the vine and you as the branch of the vine. He describes you as one with Him. So the life that flows through Him flows through you.

The message is clear. No matter how hard it may be we must let go of stress and worry, and lean more on Jesus every moment. Thank you Jesus.

3. Control Your Emotions

Besides the many health benefits of self control, this advice will keep your mind clear and your heart steady. Combine that with God's word and the winning combination will keep you moving forward in ways you never imagined. Here's what the Bible has to say:

"He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city." ~ Proverbs 16:32

Control your emotions, control you life! CM will help.

4. Please God

Every moment of the day we must be relinquished to God. Love and fear of the Lord is the way of true knowledge. These two elements deeply purges us from our ego while keeping God central in our focus. The inevitable outcome is constant praise, even in adversity.

5. Be Still

Take time out every day and many times through the day to be still. During stillness you can let go what the world has put on you and just be with God for a few moments. Get to God through Jesus, meditate on scripture, love God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Then get back to the world. Jesus often retreated from the world to recharge, you should do the same.
