Author: Jeffrey Ordonez

You wake up at night, your heart is pounding, it's dark, and you don't know what to do. Then you experience shortness of breath, you feel trapped. The darkness of night feels suffocating, and your anguish accentuates the lack of light. You feel alone, trapped, surrounded, and without hope. Your breathing is shallow and you feel as though you're being crushed.

You close your eyes... it's worst!

You get up without knowing what to do you turn on the TV and hope the taunting experience goes away. The rest of the night you fade in and out to catch glimpses of a glowing screen. The next morning you wake up. Untested, rattled, and confused you get ready for the day ahead. Welcome to anxiety.

Anxiety can be very harmful and can be experienced as a seemingly uncontrollable and overwhelming fear. Fear and anxiety is a normal part of life and often it's useful in keeping us from danger, in fact it can make us more alert. But when it's excessive, and experienced as irrational dread, it can be debilitating.

Anxiety is characterized by feelings of worry, anxiousness, or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one's daily activities like sleep, memory, and creativity. Symptoms can appear as stress disproportionate to an event, inability to stop worrying, and restlessness.

Anxiety can range from normal everyday concern to a serious disorder mental mental illness and can come in many forms—panic attacks, anxiety attacks, phobia, and general social anxiety. If anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time, so it's best to get treatment from a doctor right away.  Treatments can include counseling or medications, including antidepressants.

Christian Meditation and the Way Beyond Anxiety

As Christians we have one power, one light, one love we can rely on - Jesus. The conqueror of the world. As such, if we are to bask in His glory, listen to His word, and walk in His love.

His body, energy, and powerful peace should be the mantle that covers us everyday, every moment. His presence should dispel any and all fear, and should be a confident comfort that keeps heart and mind tempered and whole.

In Matthew 6:33 - 34 Jesus offers these words about worry and anxiety:

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

The things that cause worry and anxiety can be overcome if we keep a practice of focusing on Jesus. The practice of course requires us to study, meditate, and concentrate on God's word until it becomes a spiritual influence within us.

We can naturally assume that if Jesus advises to "seek" God first so everything we need, mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally is added to us, that anxiety and worry will be non-existent.

The path of Christian meditation is the way to peace, love, and God's word. It is the way of letting go the carnal self and giving ourselves to Christ Jesus, the Living Word. On the mindful path of Jesus, our walk of life rests in the Lord and becomes illumined by His holy Spirit.

This complete relinquishing of heart, soul, and mind toward God through study and meditation converts us into a product of the Holy Spirit. Love then becomes God's power through which we can see all things, understand all things, know all things, do all things, forgive all things, love all things, and heal.

It is a transformation that makes us more whole and complete - with God. Everything else is left behind and a new you can emerge. Brilliant with substantial love, hope, and faith your future is a reflection of God's influence over your life. His love is your guiding light, His cultivated word is your thought, and His presence is your energy.

This changing psychology is adeptly described by Romans 12:2...

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God"

Which tells that we must change our mind so we can understand God's reality.

Imagine being able to scientifically prove that keeping our mind on God's love as the most powerful tool to overcome anxiety. Well that's what Dr. Steven Hayes proved with over a thousand study cases. Although, Dr. Hayes is not a man of faith, he discovered that when patients keep their mind on love and observe anxiety from love's perspective they start to heal. Many of them heal so well that they become highly productive members of society.

What Dr. Hayes discovered is that if a person can move their mind into a new perspective they can successfully resolve anxiety, and the perspective that is most effective is - love. In John 15:5 Jesus states that we should dwell in Him so we can produce much fruit. Jesus is the incarnation of love in who we are instructed to reside in. We are told that following this advice will result in us becoming productive with His power.
