Why Should I Meditate On The Word Of God?
To understand the goal of Christian meditation we must understand how scripture depicts the timelines for human history to unfold. The final two timelines reveal that Jesus will reign with power over all nations for 1000 years, then in the final period the earth and everything in it will be transformed into it's original beauty.
During this time we are told that those who overcame the former self while on the earth will be called “sons” of God and will shine like the sun. They will literally radiate like God. In Revelation 3:20 - 22 Jesus further describes the destiny of those who “overcame”.
“To him who overcomes I will grant to sit on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down on with My Father on His throne.”
Every person who with a great deal of love for God overcomes the carnal self by “keeping” God's word, or embodied by the Word, is granted to sit on His throne. Naturally, it’s make perfect sense to think of those people as the "sons" of God, or the product of His embodied word. Against all adversity they willingly became vessels of God. Through diligent study and meditation the overcame the power the flesh, the inclinations of the carnal self, and the temptation of the world. These people honored God with their heart, soul, and mind. The result was and increased dispensation of God's presence in them. In the final years of human history, those who honored God this way will be allowed to "sit" on God's throne.
This observation is perfectly logical when we ask the question, "who would God allow to sit on His throne with Him?". The only logical answer is those who are closest to His own nature.
Meditating On The Word of God Should Be The Goal Of Every Christian!
To be granted the right to sit on God's throne requires total and complete devotion and single-mindedness toward God's word and His presence. Becoming a vessel of the living God means we can overcome the carnal tendencies of the mind, and we overcome it by empowering God's word in us. Both John 14:23 and Matthew 6:22 deliver the clearest and most direct instruction to make our inner being alive with the meditated word. The result of our dedicated behavior is God's increased power over us.
With the instruction of "keeping" His word until it becomes His enlightened presence in us (John 14:23), God is literally preparing us to sit on His throne! (Revelation 3:20 - 22)
There is no greater place in the universe that we can enter than God's throne. There is no greater power than the power radiating from His throne. There is no greater life than the life that proceeds from His throne. There is no greater understanding than the understanding that shines from His throne. There is no greater creativity than the creativity that emanates from the throne of God.
God is beyond comprehension and we're being trained to dwell with Him!
Through our earthly experience we have known the greatest evil, sins and death. Through Jesus we have known the greatest love, redemption, and life. But it is by our love for Him that we can internally cultivate His word so it springs forth with overcoming power so one day His living word may be recognized and return to the place of it's origin, God's throne. His word does not return void, but fruit through us unto everlasting life. Glory to God!
The God we serve and love is nothing less than spectacular!
Our job as lovers and followers of Jesus Christ is to “take the kingdom by force”. The proper translation of this verse is: to take, or receive, the realm of God through discipline, or strict diligence, but in love for God an others (John 14:23). The instruction to keep God’s word, or to internalize His word as our own, is repeated dozens of times throughout the Bible. Now you know the goal of Christian meditation, to realize more of God through Jesus, in the Living Word.
