So why is it so important to know the commandments of Jesus? It’s because God wants us to be more like Him. Think about it. If you were God and created a world that was gravely affected by a negative power, wouldn’t you make a way for your creation to have power over the negative force?
Wouldn’t you want your creation to rise above the negative force so it could conquer it and live in your presence? Processing that question with love always dictates the answer to be, yes!
So as God you setup your abundant creation with laws that allow human beings, your highest creation, to enjoy an eternal flow of your power.
By following your laws, your creation power over the negative force. Even death, the gravest of all enemies, is conquered by something very special you did for them. That's how much you love them.
As God, you’ve done everything right. You created the universe and sustain it with immutable laws. Without those laws, the universe and the world in it would collapse in an instant, and now your creation can explore your limitless power by following your laws.
One day you examine your creation. What do you see? You see turmoil, chaos, and destruction. You see some trying to dominate others. Corruption, illicit activities, and irrational behavior. Some are so corrupt that they literally embody the negative force you wanted them to overcome. Even though you created them in your image they embodied the negative force to such a degree that they have become unrecognizable.
You notice others who having heard your word believed and received your gift of salvation. Upon close inspection, you notice that their lives are just as affected as the unsaved. Some of them are even so corrupt it’s difficult to distinguish them from the rest of the world.
What do you do?
Can you bless those who believe in you but live in opposition to your laws? If you did, you’d have to bless everyone who sins.
In addition to not looking like a capricious kid performing a galactic experiment, your entire creation would literally implode if you blessed anything opposite to your laws and nature. So you remain resolute and bless those who allow your presence to flow by keeping your word and commandments.
This is an oversimplification and broad generalization of what’s happening today. There are those who believe and those who don’t. Among believers, some people express more sin in their lives than those who don’t believe. There’s basically no distinction between a believer’s life and a non-believer’s life.
The Bible instructs us that believers are to live a holy sinless life, perfect unto God. The body of Christ should present itself perfect unto the Lord without wrinkle or blemish. (1 Peter 1:13-16, Ephesians 5:26-27)
Christ our Lord died so we could live a life without wrinkle or blemish. The power of God is given to us by the Holy Ghost, through whom we overcome the tendencies to sin.
We are to walk, talk, and live in the perfection of God which dwells in the Holy Ghost, the very nature of God. Too often believers do not faithfully represent God or even try.
Why is that? Why is there so much sin in the body of Christ as there is in the secular world? I believe I have the answer. Once during a class, I asked, “What is sin?” To my amazement all I heard was silence. So I asked again, “What is sin?” I was stunned. Some of these people were my closest friends.
A minute or two went by, one lady raised her hand and said, “Sin is anything against the commandments of God.” I said “Right!”.
At that moment I knew we had a problem, a big problem. How can anyone believe in God, receive the gift of salvation, be given the Holy Ghost, and not know what sin is? That’s a recipe for disaster.
I realized that some Christians believe in a supernatural God but are unaware of the laws that govern His supernatural power. Believers sin because they don’t know God’s commandments. They are left to their imagination to figure what sin is.
Can God bless sin? Impossible! From cover-to-cover, the Bible explains that God blesses the righteous. And who does God call righteous? God can only call right, or good, anyone who reflects His nature. So by default God can only label someone righteous if they embody His word and follows His commandments. In them, God sees His nature built up as light. (Mt 6:22) The righteous are people who advance in the ways of God. Anything apart from His word and commandments is sin. That’s how God determines whether someone is righteous or sinful.
Now I’m going to share with you God’s eternal promise to His people. The following promise was designed by God to open the door of heaven and contains a specific condition for this promise to be fulfilled in the believers’ life.
“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God:
Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
“Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.
“Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
“Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
“The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
“The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
“The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.
“Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be afraid of you. And the Lord will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give you. The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.” (Deuteronomy 28:1 – 13)
In these verses the first thing God does is set the condition for the blessing like this, “to observe carefully all His commandments”. God does this so that if His commandments are diligently obeyed, His promise SHALL come to pass. And the promise that will come to pass is this, “set you high above, all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, blessed shall you be in the city, blessed shall you be in the country, blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground, the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle, the offspring of your flocks, blessed shall be your basket, your kneading bowl, blessed shall you be when you come in, blessed shall you be when you go out…”
All of this, and more, because His commandments were obeyed.
True success in the world is not achieved, it’s granted! Godly supernatural success is granted to people when they live within Godly bounds. Obeying His rules allows His power to flow into our lives. Blessings are merely a result of His presence cultivated in us by our obedience of His word and commandments.
Following the laws of God means to abstain from sin and to develop the ways of God mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. But without knowledge of His commandments, it’s impossible to build a life with God's power.
For Christians comprehending and practicing the commandments of God blesses us beyond the promises of the Old Testament. Within us dwells the Holy Fire of God through whom we can think, speak, and act more easily with power. Living within God’s boundaries allows the Holy Ghost in us to burn intensely with power. Thus the presence of God within us can be rapidly stimulated to an extremely high level by learning and practicing His rules of power.
The Holy Ghost within us can become so accelerated in us that His light it becomes the cause of all thought, speech, and action. A soul accentuated by God’s presence in this way emanates blessings through life affecting all things according to God’s will.
To flow with God's power, we need to meditate on the Commandments of Jesus every day until they become the default thought of the mind. Make time each morning to mindfully contemplate on the words of Jesus that keep you within the bounds of power.
