How Christian Meditation Encourages A Healthy Lifestyle

Written by: Jeff Ordonez

Once people start to meditate they tend to make healthier choices. They add more fresh fruit and veggies to their diet, have a desire to exercise, and will usually quit alcohol and smoking. The change is generally reflected due to the Christian meditation mantra to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love others as yourself.

The call to deeply love God and others causes us to embody love. This puts everything into perspective through the eyes of love, and God is love. Therefore, we would treat ourselves as God would treat us, with love, if we remain focused on love.

If you have any doubt God's word is true on the subject of concentrating, focusing, and meditating on love, the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health published a study articulating the power of loving-kindness meditation.

Scientists discovered that a person who regularly focuses on love and being kind (two biblical qualities), produced measurable changes of positive emotions. The increase of positive emotions generated new attitudes and a wide range of personal resources centered around purpose in life, peaceful living, greater ability to cope, social support toward others, decreased illness symptoms, and more joy.

These increments of personal attributes became predictors of increased life satisfaction and overall health with reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression. So scientists stumbled upon the design of the human body and how it reacts to God's law of love.

But the discoveries go much further.

The Mayo Clinic attributes meditation as the single most powerful way to boost positive emotions, creativity, and overall well-being, while reducing stress, negative emotions, and anxiety. The study was so impressive that the clinic is now interested in meditation as a way to help people manage symptoms of conditions such as:

  •     Anxiety
  •     Tension headaches
  •     Asthma
  •     Irritable bowel syndrome
  •     Cancer
  •     Depression
  •     Chronic pain
  •     Heart disease
  •     High blood pressure
  •     Sleep problems

The Mayo Clinic touts meditation as a way of living a peaceful harmonious life even in the face of adversity, which can help the healing process.

Now take a look at this Bible verse:

"Thou will keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusts in thee [the LORD]." ~ Isaiah 26:3

It looks like scientists have once again stumbled upon a Biblical principle. God designed and built the human body according to certain laws and standards, and it's written in the Bible. I predict one day the God's word will be the centerpiece of all discovery and scientific study.

As impressive as this may sound, there's more.

In 2013 the National Academy of Sciences publish an extensive scientific study documenting how a simple secular meditation help 60% of smokers quit the habit. What they found was that unlike just resting, meditation increased activity in the anterior cingulate and prefrontal cortex areas of the brain which are related to self-control.

You read that right. Meditation helps break addictions. It literally helps a person reset the brain to a healthy state so the benefits the outwardly manifested changes can been measured.

Now look at what Jesus said in Matthew 6:6.

"But thou, when you pray, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and thy Father which sees in secret shall reward thee openly."

Prayer in a small quiet room is meditation. It is meditation blessed by God and the change is manifested outwardly for all to see. Science cannot get away from God's word which contains the laws governing creation.

Unfortunately, scientific study will in large part employ secular meditation void of God and study its results. They instruct subjects to focus on the breath (which is God's), or on a simple word (word's cannot exists without God), and then measure the body's reaction.

John 14:23 states that anyone who loves Jesus will "keep" His word as the natural thought of the mind which occurs with deep concentration and meditation. The result, according to Jesus, is an increased presence of God.

Unlike secular meditation which triggers designed bio-mechanics in the body, Christian meditation based on God's word will prompt God to bless you with more divine presence. Clearly Christian mediation is the superior form of all meditation styles and you should be happy and proud that God loves you so much that He made it available to you.

Now is the best time to get started. Get close to God through His word and meditation. Within a few short days you will be  better person, healthier of mind and body. Here's a list of the 10 Most Popular Guided Christian Meditations with more scientific evidence exalting God and His marvelous creation.

God bless you. We're praying for you.

See you in the kingdom.
