"But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law he meditates day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper." ~ Psalm 1:2-3
Do you meditate on God's word day and night? Is it the object of your mind? Do you mentally find yourself referring to scripture throughout the day? Do you feel as though God's love, life, and power flow through like water? Does it enhance every part of your body like a tree whose leaf never withers?
This is God's vision of you. Your heart, soul, and mind must be radiant with God's word. Your brain, your thoughts, and your subconscious thoughts must magnify God's word. It must exalt it as a powerful light from which all things flow, and it does.
Dr. Tanya Edwards, director of the Center for Integrative Medicine, has admitted that most of her research shows that inflammation is the underlying basis of diseases like arthritis which is inflammation of the joints, and heart disease which is inflammation of the arteries. Instead of taking a medication to reduce joint pain or lower cholesterol, we would be better served by reducing inflammation in the body.
Dr. Edwards even admits that inflammation plays a role in allergic diseases like asthma, arthritis and Crohn’s disease. Additionally, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol levels and even Parkinson’s disease may all be related to chronic inflammation in the body.
A new emerging medical field is now investigating the chronic effects of inflammation on human health and the possibility of preventive applications. Since inflammation is associated with many health conditions, researchers are frantically seeking to discover new methods to alleviate inflammation in the fight against disease.
UCLA’s Dr. David Heber says that this is a new effort but makes perfect sense to treat the cause rather than the symptom.
Now compare these finding with the person whose leaf never withers. It appears that the Bible is making the connection between meditating on God's word and good health.
Perhaps the most surprising research to surface is that simple mindfulness meditation modifies our DNA. Genes were tested in groups of people before and after meditation. It was observed that genetic expressions were altered in the groups of people who practiced mindfulness.
The results showed a positive regulation of genes that control in inflammation. The genes affected the most were RIPK2, COX2, and several histone deacetylase (HDAC) genes, which regulate the activity of other genes epigenetically by switching off the pro-inflammatory chemical tags. The result was faster cortisol in high stress situations and greater mental clarity and concentration.
What scientist discovered is the mechanism designed by God for good health and healing. The connection between meditation and good health requires only a few minutes of peace and quiet. God is wonderful.
Now look at Psalm 1 again.
"But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law he meditates day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper."
God's word states that good health, or positive genetic, comes to those whose mind is continually on God's word. In other words, they study it, meditate on it, and concentrate on it, until it becomes the continual thought of the mind.
Although Psalm may not overtly state that our genetic activity changes when we meditate on God's word, Proverbs: 4:22 does.
"For they are life to those who find them (God's word), And health to all their flesh."
This verse clearly states that anyone who meditates on God's word until it becomes the thought of the mind will experience health, and health is a byproduct of positive genetic activity.
Jesus stated something similar in John 14:21 and 23. In these verses Jesus states that anyone who "keeps" His word and commandments will have an increased presence of God. It's only logical to think that if God's presence increases in us our body, or genetic activity, will change.
It appears doctors have only scratched the surface. They have only discovered the healing mechanism in the human, not God. When they advance into the field of God they will discover God's presence, the power that controls genetic activity.
They have a long road ahead, but for you and I, the path is much shorter. We were born into Christ Jesus who loves us with the Father's power and in whom all things are made new.
Close your eyes every day. Take a few deep breaths. Love Jesus with all your heart, soul, and mind, then let go. Let go in Jesus your savior. Rest in Him.
After a few minutes, open your Bible and start meditating on scripture. Study, concentrate, and meditate on God's word. Go for 20 minutes, an hour, two, or more. Go as long as possible.
Do this every day and your mind will light up. Your thoughts will be transformed and your health will change. You will then be like a tree plant by the living waters, always drawing pure life from your source.
God bless you. We're always praying for you.
See you in the kingdom.
