You've heard it once, twice, maybe a hundred times. "Give and it will be given" ~ Matthew 6:38. No matter how, when, or why we give, there's always the matter of faith. Reaping what we sow is largely a matter of faith. Even healing is a matter of faith. Jesus often stated that people are healed according to their faith.
Nearly 145 million people go to church every Sunday yet only 10 million people tithe. Chances are you know someone who doesn't give to charity and is struggling financially. In the book of Malachi, God's word states that if you give toward God's purpose He will "rebuke the devourer" for you.
In the history of humanity there hasn't been an instance where a person can claim victory over God, never. Can you imagine what it would like if God himself would appear in your life with angels to proactively battle for you? That's what Malachi 3:11 states. The only qualification is that we must have a generous heart toward God.
In Malachi 3:8, the scripture states that anyone who doesn't give can be compared to stealing from God. When we meditate on this principle we can learn that God provides us with everything, including the ability to make wealth. (Deuteronomy 8:18) He gives to us but we don't give to others.
In Proverbs 19:17 it states that anyone who gives to the poor, lends to God, and that God will pay them back. This scripture paints us as the lender and God as the borrower. Can you think of anyone better to lend than God? I can't. In fact, Deuteronomy 28:13 states that God appoints to be lenders, not borrowers.
Here's four reasons why most people don't give.
1 - A tight budget - some simply don't have the financial means to give. High debt, medical bills, and low income contribute to financial constraints.
2 - Subjective constraints - many believe they don't have the financial capacity to give. Even though they may have a good paying job, credit cards, a house, and several cars they believe they can't give. This is largely due to a consumer driven culture.
3 - Unperceived needs - Many people live a comfortable life without the knowledge, or awareness, of the pain and suffering others experience.
4 - Lack of awareness - It's been noted that 43% of church members are not expected to give any portion of their income. This is in stark contrast to biblical teaching, were we are encourage to give.
The Key To A Successful Giving Habit
If God promises that He will pay back and will defend those who give, why don't more people give? I imagine that anyone reading this article knowing that God, the Creator of the universe, will pay you back with interest is at the very least excited about the possibility. Written guarantees like that don't come around very often.
The key is in your brain. The key to unlocking a generous heart in the pituitary gland. This tiny mass in the brain produces a hormone called oxytocin. Oxytocin is in charge of many functions in the body. One notable function is the feelings of love and compassion for others.
In experiment it was shown that people who care for others have higher levels of the hormone. Researcher then went on to conclude that a person who is inject with oxytocin had an 80% higher likelihood of being generous.
Now you don't have to feel bad about your giving habits. You just might have low oxytocin levels and there's a simple way to fix it - follow Jesus.
The Method Of Prospering With Christian meditation
In the book of Matthew, Jesus states that we should love all people - our enemies, those who hate us, spitefully use us, and curse us. Following Jesus' advice of loving others this way would naturally produce enormous amounts of oxytocin in our brain. Releasing this amount of oxytocin into the bloodstream we could probably conclude that a person may enter into a state of self-sacrifice as an expression of deep love.
Of course, as Christians we are called to love others with our life if we have to, and it appears God designed our body to do just that. We are physically designed and equipped by God to follow His word of loving without limit.
The simple answer to being blessed by God with a good giving habit is oxytocin. If you increase the levels of oxytocin you will have a natural desire to give, and it starts with more love.
Love is the spiritual concept that leads the body to give and do good.
In a study conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison it was conclusively proven that love and compassion for others could be cultivated with a simple loving-kindness meditation.
Let me translate. What they discovered was that oxytocin levels are improved when a person quietly focuses for a few minutes on loving others. Yes, God is awesome.
So all you have to do is practice a Loving-Kindness Christian meditation to get your brain back in shape. Then love and give to others, it'll come natural. Best of all, you'll enter into God's promise of multiplication and protection. All you need is 10 minutes a day.
So start today and don't look back. God has an amazing future ahead. Don't miss out.
God bless you. See you in the kingdom.
