Ever wonder why we should master our personality with God? Christian meditation and the study of God's word goes a long way in changing who we are and how we think. But why should we go through the effort and discipline?
Today we’re going to talk about mastery a little more and why it's so important. If you want the fullness of God to flow through you, and for His mind to be alive in you, you need discipline.
Discipline forces us to practice self-control, persistence, and patient endurance. Discipline and the presence of God are inseparable. Without disciplined training of mind we have the internal chaos that can manifest outwardly.
The word “disciple” comes from the word “discipline.” If you’re starting to shy away at the thought of disciplined work let me encourage by sharing with you why God commands us to be more like Him in a discipline.
Your final destination is to sit with God on the throne of creation.
Let’s go to Revelation 3:20 – 21.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”
That’s pretty clear. Notice what Jesus says about those who overcome, “I will grant to sit with Me on My throne” Jesus has only one throne. He is one with the triune God. His throne is the throne of creation!
So who are those who overcome? With what you learned with this blog you already know that if you apply the energy of your inner being with love to know God through study and meditation, you will overcome the ways of the world in your heart, soul, and mind.
The cultivated word of God within you is a source of life and light (that’s Mt 6:22), and all the desires of your heart will be fulfilled (that’s Psalm 37:4) because your will and God’s will be one (that’s John 15:4).
Can you see how experiencing sin and death, being stripped of it, and then overcoming sinful tendencies rather than succumbing to them by the cultivation of His word can allow us to be granted the right to sit on the throne of creation?
Of course, it makes perfect sense, doesn’t it.
Now I want to focus on the word “overcome.” This word is translated from the Greek word nik-ah’-o (phonetic) which means to be victorious in conquest or to prevail in a victory.
God is telling us that we must be victorious in conquering thoughts, words, and deeds that produce death, and it’s those who put the diligent work to overcome whom He grants the right to sit on the throne of creation.
We are called to have mastery over the gift of our mind. We must meditatively cultivate God's word and obeying His commandments, which leads right back to the instructions of John 14:21 and 14:23.
If we don’t master the self in this lifetime, don’t worry about it. The Bible describes that we will have access to many books in the kingdom. These books will not contain casual reading for entertainment.
Because God is the author, these books will contain information about Him and His creation. The Oracles of God will deliver to you information that will develop higher spiritual knowledge. Your level of understanding of His creation will be broadened more perfectly.
So did God know all this in advance?
The answer is yes! It’s written in the Bible. The entire story of humanity is written in the Bible from beginning to end. This tells us that even before God made anything, He foresaw us sitting on the throne of creation with Him.
The glory of sitting on His throne was His intention for us from the very beginning. But in order for us to reside with Him on the throne, we need to have dominion over ourselves.
Take time every day to train and discipline your mind with God's word with meditation and meditative prayer. One day your name will be called to the throne. Now you know why it's so important to train yourself spiritually.
